The Board of Commissioners of the Public Service Commission of Yazoo City participated in the 16th annual Public Power Day of Giving on June 6 in New Orleans, Louisiana, held in conjunction with the American Public Power Association’s National Conference. This meaningful day of service was originally founded by APPA in 2008 in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina and has since become a tradition of giving back to local communities.
The Yazoo City Board of Commissioners joined more than 100 volunteers from public power utilities across the country to support two local nonprofit organizations, Rebuilding Together New Orleans and The Green Project.
At Rebuilding Together New Orleans, the Commissioners and other volunteers helped repair and revitalize homes in the community. Their work included painting, clearing debris, moving heavy objects, and performing other hands-on tasks to improve living conditions for local residents.
At The Green Project, the Commissioners contributed to environmental sustainability efforts by sorting and recycling paint, processing waste materials, and assisting with various warehouse operations. The Green Project focuses on diverting waste from landfills and educating the public on the value of reclaimed goods.
The Public Service Commission of Yazoo City Board of Commissioners’ participation demonstrated their commitment to community service and the spirit of public power, extending their impact beyond Yazoo City to support the recovery and sustainability of New Orleans neighborhoods.
